Money Adviser

Location: Suffolk Coastal

Closing date: 7th April 2025 (please note the closing date may be moved forward if a suitable candidate is found)

Salary: £26,000 to £27,000 depending on experience

Hours: up to 37 Hours per week


About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable Money Adviser to join our team. In this role, you will provide specialist debt and money advice, ensuring clients receive the guidance they need to manage their financial situations effectively. You will also act as a resource for generalist advisers and contribute to improving service delivery. 

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering a high-quality, compliant money advice service in line with Citizens Advice standards.
  • Providing casework support on a range of debt and financial matters, with a special focus on housing debt.
  • Assisting clients with income maximisation, benefits, budgeting and tax.
  • Negotiating with creditors, statutory bodies and other organisations on behalf of clients.
  • Preparing financial statements and supporting clients with advocacy and formal submissions.
  • Encouraging the professional development of volunteer advisers in money advice. Liaising and working with our partners to provide complex case work which could also require joint home visits if needed.
  • Working with our partners to provide a streamless approach to casework and remove barriers. Building good relationships by being visible at community events and working in our partners offices where possible.
  • Being proactive at community engagement events. Attending where possible to show the work we are doing with debt money and housing in order to connect with partners and clients.

 

Key Requirements

Essential:

  • Experience in providing specialist money and debt advice.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, case law and best practices in financial guidance.
  • Excellent negotiation skills, with the ability to liaise with creditors, statutory bodies and other organisations.
  • Ability to analyse complex financial situations, helping clients make informed decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including active listening and empathy, to understand and support clients effectively.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate case records and working within quality assurance frameworks.
  • Commitment to research and campaigns, using case studies and data to support advocacy work.
  • A proactive approach to continuous professional development to stay updated on financial policies and practices.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in Citizens Advice or a similar advisory service.

General Adviser Projects - Waveney

Location: Beccles/Lowestoft

Closing date: 14th April 2025 

Salary: £12.50 per hour

Hours: Looking for 2 candidates to work for a total of approx. 50 hours a week. This could include a mix of full-time and part-time or two part-time roles. 


About the Role

We are looking for a self-motivated, organised and adaptable General Adviser to join our team under various projects. In this role, you will provide advice across a range of topics, assisting clients over the phone, virtually, face-to-face and at outreach locations. You will deliver generalist-level advice and information, ensuring clients receive the support they need to navigate complex issues. We will train you to provide advice at casework level under the various projects we have (benefits, energy, debt).

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing advice on a wide range of topics.
  • Assisting clients with completing paper and digital forms.
  • Making referrals to internal and external services.
  • Recording client interactions, outcomes and referrals electronically.

 

This role requires digital proficiency, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.

 

Key Requirements

 

Essential:

  • Strong IT skills, with the ability to support the delivery of advice.
  • Confidence in encouraging and assisting others to use online systems and resources for self-help.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including sensitive listening and questioning, to understand and address client needs.
  • Strong research, analytical and problem-solving abilities to interpret complex information and present clear reports.
  • Awareness of barriers individuals face in accessing services.
  • A solid understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion in service provision.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and engage in open, respectful discussions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn, develop skills and adapt to evolving service needs.
  • Awareness of social issues and their impact on clients.
  • Ability to support research and campaigns by gathering and sharing relevant client information.
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of Citizens Advice and its equal opportunities policies.

 

Desirable:

  • Fully trained as a Generalist Adviser within Citizens Advice.
